Week 8 Term 4 2023

Good afternoon parents,

Here we go into Week 8 - just 10 more days together as a Year 4 team. What a wonderful year I have had with the special members of 4K for 2023.  They are a super bunch and should all feel very proud of themselves in how much they have grown over the year and the personal achievements they have made.  Over the next few days, I will be contacting some parents via email to inform them about their child's current achievements and academic needs for their child into next year.  If you are not contacted but would still like to meet before the end of the year, please feel free to catch me either quickly before or after school or reach out via email if you would like to discuss any questions or anything on your mind at all.

Class Lists 2024 - In the newsletter last week, you would have seen that Mr Benjamin Danaher and Mr Sean McSevich/Mrs Tenielle Lamotte will be working with these students next year.  Class lists will begin to be determined this week into next week and will be distributed next in Week 10.

What's On This Week...

As usual, we are very busy! This coming Wednesday we have the OLC Christmas Concert...we will be having a whole school rehearsal each day and it is VERY IMPORTANT that your child brings their hat and water bottle to school each day as well as making sure that sunscreen has been applied before coming to school.

We will be having rehearsals on Monday afternoon after lunch and on Tuesday and Wednesday morning's...hydration and sun protection are key particularly in this recent heat.  Please make sure that your child has a costume as directed...Mrs King has provided a number of pictures for inspiration in the newsletter a couple of weeks ago so please check them out.

We will be celebrating this year's concert on Wednesday 29th November beginning at 5.30pm...please make sure that you arrive by 5pm with your child dressed and ready to go.

Please bring them to class NO EARLIER than 5pm so that we can get everyone settled and we will make our way down to the oval...once you have dropped your child off, please head down to the oval to find a good spot!

Christmas Concert

A note from Ms Jane King:

Get ready for a jolly good time! This year's Christmas Concert, featuring the uproarious nativity play 'Straw and Order,' is set to dazzle on Wednesday, November 29th, in Week 8. We're thrilled to announce that students from PP to Y5 will participate, with each year group contributing to the high spirits. Your child may have a role in the play or will join their peers in a delightful group song.

Y4:Traditional town people with costumes such as old pillowcase; cut outs for head and arms and rope or scrap of material for waist and old tea towel for head with rope or scrap of material to keep on head. Perhaps a vest or old dressing gown over the top but we can plan on it being hot!  Any questions to jane.king@cewa.edu.au

Working Hard - Other than our Christmas concert preparations, please note that we are still in the midst of our teaching and learning program...we are working very hard and we are not on holidays yet.

Grading for student reports is still underway and reports will be made available via SEQTA at the end of Week 9.  Please see the office if you do not have this already set up on your devices.  Please see last week's blog post for more information about the grading system.

Our class reward sytem BANQUER money will be pooled by the children together and it has been decided by the 4K team to have a "mega-day" of fun.  Some requests and votes have been made and are currently awaiting approval by the school leadership.  It includes the request for a class party on the Wednesday of week 9 and more information will be shared via blog.  Otherwise for all the other days it will just be business as usual!

St Vinnies Christmas Hamper Appeal - A huge thank you to those families that have been able to make a contribution so far. If you are able to make a small donation, these hampers go a long way!  See last week's blog for more details.

Homework - Please note that this is the last week for homework - students are welcome to complete it and bring it to school early ready to mark together the maths section on Friday.  Week 9 is homework free!!!

Uthando Dolls

Thank you so much for the helpers who have come in over the last month or so to assist the doll making.  It has been a wonderful project that wouldn't have been possible at all without the wonderful helpers that have come in over the term!  They will be delivered to the lovely ladies in Perth and shipped off later in the year.

Learning Intentions for the fortnight
Maths - will be reviewing measurement areas of need: telling time on analogue clock, calculating elapsed time, symmetry and area.

English - Bush ballads and poetry

Spelling/Grammar - homophones and morphology study

Cape Care Elderly Pen Pals

Over the year we have communicated with some pen pals in the Dunsborough and Busselton Cape Care.  We have made cards and letters for them and we will begin creating some Christmas cards to send to our elderly pen pals. The children have loved hearing from some of their pen pals throughout the year and it has been a great way to be involved in the community.

Dear parents,

Well here we are - the last three weeks of Year Four! While it's not over yet, I just want to say what a wonderful year I have had with the special members of 4K for 2023.  They are a super bunch and should all feel very proud of themselves in how much they have grown over the year and the personal achievements they have made.  As the year is beginning to round up coming to an end, I will be contacting some parents via email to let them know about a meeting in regards to academic needs for their child into next year.  If you are not contacted but would still like to meet before the end of the year, please reach out via email and I am happy to meet before or after school (with exceptions of Tuesdays staff meetings) or give you a call to discuss any questions or anything on your mind at all.

 Semester Two Reports 📰

Grades and comments will be finalised by next week, and formal reports will be sent home electronically via SEQTA on the last days of the term. Please contact the office if you do not have the SEQTA app already set up on your devices.  Our Semester Two reports grading aligns with the Western Australian curriculum and achievement standards for Year 4. We encourage you to read the first opening page of the report, which explains what each grade letter means in association with the SCSA WA curriculum, rather than thinking about the grade letters we used to receive in our schooling years.  A 'C grade' on your child's report is likened to an average achievement grade. It relates to the majority of the WA year 4 population's achievement/progression level of the curriculum, and our OLC reports also include their personal values and attitudes toward their learning.  If your child receives a 'C' grade, this is the expected level of achievement.  We take immense pride in their personal growth throughout the semester and their unwavering dedication to achieving their individual goals.

VIA Character Strength

St Mary Mackillop was a trailblazer in her lifetime and paved the way for the education of poor children in 19th-century Australia. She also stood up for children and did not hesitate to ensure that justice was brought to those who would harm them. When things get tough, do you keep on trying? Do you finish what you start?
